Before Registering for a Backcountry Tour

About the Backcountry Tours

There are inherent risks that come along with entering the backcountry.

Therefore, the Noborikaeshi Club will take the ability of the participants, mountain conditions, the weather, and other factors into account before determining the most appropriate tour location for the day.

In addition, backcountry tours include hiking, thus requiring physical strength and experience.

To be better able to ensure your safety, please remember to fill out the quick questionnaire on the reservation form.

Insurance
The tour fee does not include insurance for injuries of the participants. Please purchase your domestic personal accident insurance prior to participating in the tour.
Equipment
Guests using fat, telemark, or split-board skis often have difficulties in the high-altitude mountains of Hokkaido, such as the stickers coming off or not sticking on the crusty slopes.
Crampons, ice axes, and other technical boot gear are highly recommended. In addition, you must have avalanche gear including a beacon, probe, and shovel. Extra gloves, headwear, and goggles are recommended.
Rentals
For many years, the Noborikaeshi Powder Guide Club has been using the brand “FIELD EARTH”, which was developed in Hokkaido’s Daisetsuzan. Their 2.5D - 4D modeled boards are utilized to provide speed and durability on various kinds of terrain.
We have each type of board available, so please let us know which you are interested in during registration.
We also have a small selection of other necessary equipment available.
Meals
We will not be able to take long breaks hiking back through the mountains.
Please prepare easy-to-eat snacks such as bread or energy bars. In addition, we recommend that you bring both a cold drink for the hike and a warm drink in case you get cold.
For Guests Participating as Beginners
If you do not have much experience hiking or do not have sufficient equipment prepared, please register for a private tour.
Feel free to contact us for more details.

Tour Courses

Guide Fee per course 16,500 yen / person
Mobile Pickup 5,500 yen / person (Not included with guide fee)

  • 山
    Furano Dake
As a result of the extreme cold, Furano dake offers the best snow quality. In addition to the North Ridge (Hokuiwa) course, popular locations include the northwest Giant Ridge. Despite being a north-facing slope, the lush conifer forests provide protection from the seasonal winds and allow for a smooth boarding experience.
Adidas and West Ridge have also risen in popularity recently.
  • 山
    Mt. Sandan
Previously home to a ski resort, the mountain has three steep slopes that lead up to the peak as the name suggests. It is a relatively easy mountain to climb. The starting base for the hike is Tokachidake-Onsen "Ryounkaku" or Shirokane-Onsen "Shirokane-so".
  • 山
    Mt. Mae Tokachi
There is a possibility that the deep snow can melt into exposed rock belts overnight, so the snow coverage on this mountain is not stable. It is recommended to choose this course from mid-February onwards.
In addition, due to the lack of trees, whiteouts and wind crust can sometimes occur.
  • 山
    Mt. Sanpozan
There is a natural slope from Mt. Minue to Furanodake, and depending on the direction of the wind, you could slide down powdered snow.
There are also bowls and chutes at the peak.
  • 山
    Mt. Tomamu
The run located behind Tomamu Ski Resort has been gaining popularity in recent years.
Surrounded by ridges on three sides and facing northeast, it is possible to enjoy good snow conditions until the end of March.
  • 山
    Shiyamanshiyadake -- Mt. Takenoko
This is a course with various hikes up the northeastern slope, including Shiyamanshiyadake and Mt.Takenoko.
  • 山
    Mt. Asahidake
This is a course on the tallest and most popular mountain in Hokkaido. The run can be enjoyed all day, as it is accessible through the “Kamui Mintara” ropeway.
  • 山
    Snowmobile Pick-up
We will explore lesser-known areas in the mountains using a snowmobile.
The hike after getting off is quite difficult, so this tour option is recommended for those with more experience.
